Mike Nicolaassen developed an interest in pop photography during his studies to become a photographer. In the year 2000 his interests in music and photography combined perfectly these interests soon became a passion.
The first years were dominated by a lot of live photography; getting to know bands and
hitting the road with them both nationally and internationally. It didn’t matter which band it was
or where they played, Mike wanted to get them in front of his camera, and often got involved
with them on a personal level.
In 2003 his efforts were starting to pay off. Mike was contacted by Up Magazine to shoot a couple of cover shoots.
Working for Up he photographed bands like The Offspring, Madball, Nashville Pussy, The international
Noise Conspiracy, and Danko Jones. These shoots all made the front cover of the magazine.
In recent years, Mike has increasingly been approached by bands, magazines and companies to be an active part
of the music scene on their behalf. He has also worked as a pop photographer for Jack Daniels.
In 2011 Mike Nicolaassen is a respected pop photographer. Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Iron Maiden,
Motörhead, and R.E.M. are just a small selection of his clients.
